Yogi Bhajan 1929-2004 " I have come to Create Teachers. I have not come to Gain Students"
Born in India in 1929, Yogi Bhajan was the son of a Medical Doctor. He grew up in privileged environments of Private Schools and often spent his Summers in the exclusive Mountain region of Himachal Pradesh.
At the age of eight Yogi Bhajan started his Yogic Training with Sant Hazara Singh. At the age of sixteen and a half, Sant Hazara Singh proclaimed Yogi Bhajan to be the Master of Kundalini Yoga.
Yogi Bhajan was the first to publicly teach Kundalini Yoga, when he arrived in the West in 1968, he announced he had come to the West "to create teachers, not to gain students". A deeply devoted Sikh, his inspiration and example motivated thousands to embrace the Sikh way of life, implementing Selfless Service for others.
In 1971, Yogi Bhajan told his secretary that he had just become the Mahan Tantric. Her curiosity led her to ask what he meant, and he explained that when he was a young man he studied with a very great man, Sant Hazara Singh and this Saintly Yogi was the Mahan Tantric. There is only one Mahan Tantric on the earth at a time. Yogiji knew he was the best student studying with him, so he was convinced that the power of the Mahan Tantric would be passed on to him. But because of this thought, this expression of ego, when Santji passed on the power, it went to another disciple - Lama Lilan Po. In 1971 when Lama Lilan Po passed he then bestowed this power to Yogi Bhajan and this was how Yogiji became the Mahan Tantric.
Yogi Bhajan's basic message was "It is your birthright to be healthy, happy, and holy."
